Seymour Hersh Describes BushCo's "New" Strategy

The New Yorker : fact : content

In the past few months, as the situation in Iraqhas deteriorated, the Bush Administration, in both its public diplomacyand its covert operations, has significantly shifted its Middle Eaststrategy. The “redirection,” as some inside the White House have calledthe new strategy, has brought the United States closer to an openconfrontation with Iran and, in parts of the region, propelled it intoa widening sectarian conflict between Shiite and Sunni Muslims.

To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administrationhas decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the MiddleEast. In Lebanon, the Administration has coƶperated with Saudi Arabia’sgovernment, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intendedto weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran. The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iranand its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been thebolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision ofIslam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.

He goes on to cite officials in the military as saying that they are prepared to attack Iran within 24 hours of BushCo giving the word. Of course, BushCo keeps insisting in public that they have no plans to attack Iran at this time (though we could ask at what time do you plan to attack Iran?). It seems that BushCo will not be satisfied untilt they start WWIII.

Notice that Hersh mentions that BushCo is playing both sides of the street in the growing sectarian violence in the Middle East. It's good to know that BushCo is not prejudiced in at least one way. Too bad they had to pick this way.

We need to impeach BushCo now. Whay doesn't anybody in Congress seem to understand this?
